It seems the Mr Irrelevant Brock Purdy is gaining relevance in the 2022 season following a splendid performance in his rookie year. His popularity has reached to an extent that the management is rooting for the youngster above veteran quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the playoffs and the remaining postseason games.

Subsequently, the third-string prospect Brock Purdy got activated in Week 14, helping the side wrap up the regular season with a streak of 10 wins. His 5-0 start aided the Niners to unlock the long-time record of having consecutive five-game winning streaks by different quarterbacks since 1972.

With this performance, the management decided to go with Purdy in their NFC Wild card game against the Seahawks. As one could expect, the quarterback took the win home by a great margin (41-23). As a result, in the upcoming postseason matchups, Purdy will start for the side. Although Garoppolo is cleared for action, he will stay as the backup option.

“49ers, they’re holding out hope that he could actually return to the NFC Championship game, maybe the Super Bowl if they make it that far. However, I want to put 49ers fans at ease right now. If he returns, it has to be a backup, to back up Brock Purdy. Not to be the starter again. This is Brock Purdy’s team moving forward,” Jay Glazer of FOX Sports said in his report.

This season the seventh-round pick completed 67.1 per cent of passes for 1,373 yards. He recorded 13 touchdowns against four interceptions. Moreover, he averaged 33.6 points per game with a 119.0 passer rating earning the starting job for the remaining games. Not to mention fans were happy to welcome this decision.

Meanwhile, Purdy has joined the elite club of quarterbacks like Joe Montana, Jeff Garcia, and Alex Smith in his first season. With increasing popularity and trust among the fans, it is clear that his future in the Niners locker room is secure for a much longer time.
