As per ESPN’s NFL Nation’s Seattle Seahawks reporter Brian Henderson, the team’s head coach Pete Carroll expressed regret over the decision to pass on Kaepernick.

“Pete Carroll said he regrets that the Seahawks weren’t the team to sign Colin Kaepernick in 2017. Kap visited and Carroll said the Seahawks didn’t feel it was the right fit because they felt he was a starter, and he said he was certain Kap would be starting somewhere that season.”

The workout took place nearly 3 years back. It remains the last time Kaepernick featured on the field before an NFL team. But the 68-year-coach revealed that one team has shown interest in the former 49er. This is because the aforementioned workout was the subject of an unnamed team’s call. 

The call has led to speculation that the team may be interested in signing Kaepernick. 

As per Henderson, “Carroll said that before today, he hadn’t gotten a call from any other team asking about Kaepernick and the Seahawks’ experience with him. He wouldn’t say who called today, but it left him with the impression that at least one team is interested in Kaepernick.”

This means that Kaepernick’s time in free agency could end soon. However, based on Henderson’s tweet, the Seahawks coach seemingly eliminated his side from the race. 

He tweeted, “As for possibly signing Kaepernick now, Carroll didn’t close the door but said they like their current quarterback situation with Geno Smith back as Russell Wilson’s backup.“
