It’s been a month since Tom Brady hung his cleats from professional football. However, many still don’t believe it to be true. Rumors have been circulating that the GOAT will make a return ahead of the 2022 season. But it’s not sure that if he does, which team would he opt to go for?

Brady has also been dropping hints for a possible return. Following his retirement, in the Let’s Go! podcast with Jim Gray, Brady said that he would “never say never” to any future opportunities. Brady is also linked to trade rumors with his childhood team San Francisco 49ers. And now that the Niners are undergoing discussion for their quarterback prospects, it might be a good time for the seven-time Super Bowl winner to swoop in.

However, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t agree to it. The franchise still owns the rights to the veteran quarterback. It simply means that the Bucs would have to sign a trade deal with another team instead of Brady signing a deal on his own.

Bruce Arians on Tampa Bay Buccaneers holding on to Tom Brady

On Tuesday at the NFL Scouting Combine, coach Bruce Arians said that it would be, “bad business” if the Buccaneers would let go of Brady just like that. When further asked about the trading rights and the price at which the team would list the GOAT, he said, that the Bucs would take “five No. 1’s” in exchange for him. This manifests that the franchise is unwilling to let go of the 44-year-old.

The Buccaneers are keeping Brady’s return in consideration. The franchise is in no hurry to draft or sign a star quarterback, as of now. They seem to keep a door open for Brady by accommodating him in their salary cap.

Furthermore, letting go of the player rights of Tom Brady would not be a wise option for the team. If he ends up joining forces with the Niners, it would be a disaster for the Buccaneers from a competitive standpoint. The 49ers would then be a direct threat to their NFC Championship.
