Baker Mayfield & Immaturity Issues Resurrect As New Insider Info Reveals What The League Really Thinks

Cleveland Browns QB Baker Mayfield’s position in the team as a starting QB remains unclear as the Browns traded Deshaun Watson from the Houston Texans this season. Many critics think that the Browns may keep Mayfield as an option because there are chances Watson faces a year-long suspension by the NFL. 

According to a piece of insider information, it seems a word has been circulating in the league that truly goes against the player. Jordon Schultz on the Pat McAfee Show revealed the whole situation Baker Mayfield is facing and why.

Schultz in the show said, “But I think bigger than that fella is the leadership, or lack thereof, on his part. That’s what I’ve heard in talking to not only players but coaches. GM there is a sense around the league that Baker Mayfield is still an immature guy. And even if he’s healthy, do you want to deal with that in your locker room? And from my perspective, he has not been the face, the leader of that locker room, really since day one.”

According to Schultz, he has been talking to many players and coaches in the league, and they all think Mayfield lacks leadership. He further went on to say the reason behind it was that the QB is quite young. Mayfield might be in better from the last season as he has recovered from the injuries. But, the Browns QB could not transform himself into a leader since day one.

Baker Mayfield played with an injured shoulder in the 2021 season

Baker Mayfield, in the 2021 season, suffered a torn shoulder labrum while playing against the Houston Texans in Week 2. He went to play with an injured shoulder that affected his game performance. Finally, in Week 7, when the Browns were to play against Denver Broncos, Mayfield was ruled out of the game due to his injury.

Cleveland couldn’t reach the playoffs, and Mayfield ended the season 6-8 and threw 17 touchdowns to 13 interceptions. The QB has played four seasons with the Cleveland Browns. The Browns had picked up his fifth-year option after the 2020 season and he was entering his last this year.

Mayfield is due $18.9 million for this season, which is also one of the reasons no team is considering him. Well, the Panthers and Seahawks have shown interest in signing a deal with him, but nothing has been confirmed yet. Mayfield needs a good season this year to prove he is still one of the best in the league.
