Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been a part of the NFL since 2016. He last played for the San Francisco 49ers, and prior to his exit, he was already benched by another quarterback. Ben Shapiro and Joe Rogan on the Joe Rogan Experience talked about Kaepernick.

Shapiro gave his honest thoughts about the benching of Kaepernick. He also talked about the quarterback that replaced him as the starter of the 49ers. Blaine Gabbert, who is currently the backup quarterback at the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, was the person who became the starter for the 49ers replacing Kap.

Ben Shapiro said, “You get benched for Blaine Gabbert and take millions of bucks from a major corporation. Blaine is that the guy, yeah the immortal Blaine Gabbert, the Hall of Famer Blaine Gabbert. No no no, Blaine Gabbert was an NFL quarterback who sucked.”

He added, “I mean he(Gabbert) was terrible, and they benched Colin Kaepernick for him. It was after he got benched that he started doing the kneeling for like for the American flag.” This certainly was a bold statement from Shapiro. Nobody clearly knows whether Kap deciding to take a knee was due to him getting benched by the 49ers.

Was Colin Kaepernick a terrible quarterback for the 49ers?

Terrible isn’t the right word for a quarterback like Colin Kaepernick. He was a pretty decent quarterback during his time in the NFL. He led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl, which they eventually lost.

Kap had a pretty good run with the franchise, but his lack of consistency was the reason for his benching. He played 6 seasons for the 49ers and threw for 12,271 yards and 72 touchdowns.

Kaepernick is nearing a return to the NFL. After being out from the league for such a prolonged period, there is a huge possibility that he’ll end up on a team’s roster for the upcoming season. Even though he won’t be given a starting quarterback role, at this point, a spot on the roster will be decent enough for the former 49ers quarterback.
