Bengals Rookie Kicker Evan McPherson Ties and Sets Incredible Post-Season Records During Super Bowl LVI

The Cincinnati Bengals lost their Super Bowl game against the Los Angeles Rams, continuing with their dry spell. However, it was not all bad for the rookie placekicker of the Bengals. Evan McPherson tied an incredible postseason field-goal record to the legendary Adam Vinatieri and set another during Sunday’s game.
McPherson had a remarkable postseason run in his rookie campaign though it did not come to fruition in the end. He ended up claiming a couple of records while also spectating the marvelous Super Bowl halftime show, featuring stars like Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, Mary J. Blige, and Kendrick Lamar.

The 22-year-old Cincy placekicker became the first player in NFL history with over one game with at least four field goals in the same postseason. He scored four field goals in each of his three AFC playoff wins and also kicked two more field goals in the Super Bowl LVI.

His overall postseason tally has tied with the rookie legendary NFL placekicker Adam Vinatieri for having 14 field goals in one postseason stretch.

“I had the goal to break that record,” McPherson said after Super Bowl LVI. “We tied it, so that’s cool and all, but it sucks we didn’t win. But I will say I’m honored to be up there with Adam and everything he’s accomplished. All his records are kind of what I’m striving for throughout my career.”

Though missing the Lombardi Trophy by an inch, the 22-year-old has shown exceptional performance throughout his rookie season. He went 14 of 14 field-goal attempts in the playoffs, including two that came during the Super Bowl game itself. His contribution to the team has been very vital to carrying the offense forward.
