The head coach of the Washington Football Team, Ron Rivera, slammed his Dallas Cowboys counterpart for his unorthodox choice of words. Mike McCarthy, the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, returned to the club on Thursday after a 10-day absence and instantly made headlines.

McCarthy made a brutal remark ahead of his Week 14 battle against the Washington Football Team, stating that it’s all assured that the Cowboys will win. Rivera didn’t give much heed to McCarthy’s statement. He told NBC Sports that McCarthy’s plan isn’t important, and he is merely attempting to get in their heads.

Ron Rivera responds to McCarthy’s claim

“I think it’s interesting. I don’t think it’s important,” Rivera said. “I think that’s the big mistake, because as far as I’m concerned, you do that for a couple of reasons. One is you want to get in our head. And so I’ve told our players, ‘That’s interesting, it’s not important. What’s important is our preparation, getting ready to play on Sunday.'”

“Secondly, he’s trying to convince his team. So, again, I think that’s another mistake. Because he’s now made it about him and what he said, it’s not about his players anymore. So I think that’s a big mistake. That’s why to me, you don’t do those things. What you do is you focus in, you get ready, and you play football. We show up on Sunday, and we’ll see what happens.”

McCarthy didn’t take long to respond to Rivera’s comments on his statement. Although, he told reporters that any reaction to his previous statement was “irrelevant.

Mike McCarthy gets back to Rivera

“I was talking about my team. I always coach my own team. That’s where I’m at with it,” McCarthy said. “We have great confidence in what we’re trying to do. It was an honest answer to a question from a great group of people.”

The Cowboys (8-4) lead the Washingtons (6-6) by two games in the NFC East, with the clubs meeting twice in the next three weeks.

The last time the clubs met in December with both teams having a .500 or better record was Week 17, 2012, when Washington won 28-18. Sunday is the first of Washington’s last five division games of the season. And four of the Cowboys’ final five games are against division opponents.

It is going to be a breathtaking scenario in the gridiron as the two enraged coaches lock horns in the FedEx Field. We still need to see who emerges victorious. Will Rivera falsify the claims of McCarthy? Or will McCarthy assert his pre-claimed dominance over the Washingtons?
