Mike McCarthy’s new-look Dallas Cowboys are enjoying a fine season in 2021. The return of star quarterback Dak Prescott is just. what the NFC East old boys needed this year. The Cowboys are 3-1 and sit at the top of their division heading into Week 5 of the season.
While Prescott has been their star performer, credit must also be given to the Cowboys’ defence and RB Ezekiel Elliott. Rookie Micah Parson has also done well in his debut season. But one player who will not continue in Dallas is 26-year old linebacker Jaylon Smith.

Jaylon Smith signed a five-year, $64 million deal with the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. He featured in all 4 games for the Cowboys and totalled 18 tackles along with two pressures. However, he has been lacking in coverage this season, allowing nine of his 10 targets to be completed for 86 yards.
Coach McCarthy explained the decision to part ways with the former Notre Dame player.
“We felt this was the time to do it. I just think like anything, there’s always factors involved in how you build your 90-man roster. … Jaylon’s an excellent football player. There’s other factors involved in this decision.

“He played good football for us. In my time with him, he totally bought into the new direction of the program and everything we’ve done. The guy practices every single day and plays his ass off. I have nothing but respect for him,” McCarthy said via the team’s official website.
