The Cleveland Browns‘ defensive debacle is getting slightly out of hand. After their playoff dreams ended two weeks ago, things seem to have gotten worse as the team veterans are letting their frustrations out and some even desperately want out. Defensive end Myles Garrett and Jadeveon Clowney’s public back-and-forth may have reached its final round.

After a disappointing 7-9 season, the Cleveland Browns will be looking to make changes before next season assuredly. However, nine-year veteran Clowney has already made his intentions clear about carrying on with the Browns next year. And Browns defensive star Garrett looks to have had enough of Clowney’s nagging and complaining.

Clowney’s statements did not sit well with Myles Garrett

According to Clowney’s conversation with Cleveland.com, the former Seahawk and Texan DE made it almost certain that he will not be re-signing with the Browns next season. “You’re all trying to get [Garrett] into the HOF instead of winning games. I don’t even think [Garrett] notices, I ain’t trying to say it’s him. I try to get along with everybody I play with. Me and he don’t have a problem. It ain’t his fault, and it’s B.S., and I don’t have time for it,” Clowney said.

Jadeveon doesn’t feel included in the roster. He thinks the Browns got their own guys, and he isn’t one of them. “So it’s time for me to get my exit slip,” Clowney added.

Clowney also had a problem with getting on-field during first and second downs against the Baltimore Ravens in Week 7 this regular season. “We practised all week, and we get in the game and they want to move me. I’m not doing that s—. I’m old, I did my job,” the Browns DE said. Jadeveon feels he has done his time in the league and would prefer the third downs after everything he has put in.

Garrett’s response to his teammate was nothing short of brutal

Myles Garrett felt these statements from his teammates were unnecessary. Moreover, the star DE would have felt more comfortable with a one-on-one conversation instead of speaking to the media about it. “I wish we could have talked about this man-to-man. It’s not the way I would have handled it,” Garrett told the press representatives.

The biggest statement from Myles was definitely when he labeled Clowney a forced guest at Cleveland. “We just want volunteers, not hostages,” the 4th ranked sacks leader in the league said about Jadeveon. However, the Browns’ head coach Kevin Stefanski chose to not comment on the subject and said that he would not go into specifics about this situation.

Garrett has 15 sacks compared to Clowney’s 2 this season. Myles is also the second-best edge rusher in pass rush win rate percent this year in the league. And Clowney’s 16.5% pass rush win rate fades in comparison to 4x Pro Bowler Garrett’s 27.8%. And despite thinking he is still elite, the Browns made their choice clear when they downgraded Jadeveon and elevated 2 practice squad players.
