Going on a plant-based diet is something many athletes tend to do. These diets help athletes maintain a healthier lifestyle while also becoming stronger by the day. Retired NFL GOAT Tom Brady is one such athlete who is well known for his vegan diet, apart from his incredible passes as a quarterback. Being someone who follows a strict 80 percent vegan diet, we also know the retired 7X Super Bowl champion as the founder of the TB12 method, a whole-food diet.
And just like Brady, there is another NFL QB who is currently a free agent, that adopted this vegan lifestyle for his own benefit. This QB was also a 2015 league MVP and credits his vegan diet for helping him build a more sustainable and healthier lifestyle.

Cam Newton is a big vegan buff like Brady
Nicknamed ‘The Super Cam’, Cam Newton was one of the most prolific and greatest QBs of the league during the prime of his career. In 2015, he led the Carolina Panthers to a 15-1 regular season record and a Super Bowl final in that season. In 2019, which was also his final year with the Panthers, Newton suffered from a Lisfranc fracture on his foot, adding to the list of injuries he’s sustained over the years. And that is when he decided to shift to a cleaner plant-based diet after years of eating meat and dairy.

According to an article by LiveKindly, the 34-year-old free agent QB had credited his shift to a vegan lifestyle for his recovery. This became a permanent decision after he noticed the way it was positively affecting his body and health. During an interview with WCCB news, Newton said, “Some of the strongest animals, some of the strongest species on this Earth are vegetarians.” Giving the examples of gorillas and elephants, the 2015 MVP said that he finds his source of protein and strength from plants and loves how his shift in diet makes him feel.
Furthermore, that was not the pinnacle for Cam Newton on his vegan journey. He also invested in a top vegan chicken brand that would help increase its accessibility.

Newton invests in Daring Foods
Daring Foods is a company that makes plant-based chicken with a vision to replace it as an alternative to real chicken. In 2019, Cam Newton met the CEO of the company, Ross Mackay, and found himself aligning with the vision of the brand. He opened up about how he wants to help in the expansion of the plant-based food scenes in his community in Atlanta, leading up to the investment. Newton joins the likes of rap icon Drake and Olympian Miles Chamley-Watson, who are also investors in Daring Foods.
