Days, after Carson Wentz was acquired by the Washington Commanders things, have changed for the side. Yet another Safety is made available in the open trade market after being released by the Commanders.

Landon Collins, the three-time Pro Bowler, and star safety possibly had some conflicts of interest over pay-related issues with the franchise and has now landed himself as a free agent. The news was initially brought into light by CBS sports, who claimed that Collins was asked twice a pay cut before releasing him from the franchise.

Landon Collins was initially signed by the Washington Commanders in a 6 year deal for $86 million. The contract was signed in March 2019, which assured him a smooth run for the club. However, the Wentz deal seems to have affected the overall atmosphere inside the camp.

A complete revamp might be one of the reasons why the commanders are releasing their players. The 28-year-old strong safety was first asked to take a pay cut. Well, he agreed to take one, however, things changed for him when the club once again asked him to get a pay cut.

This contradicted his committed paycheck and hence the decision. His release will help now the commanders to save their $6.6 million against the cap, and an opportunity to look out for some other players in the market.

How good was the Safety?

According to Collins, money completely changed after Wentz was roped in by the Commanders. His abrupt release may land him in trouble because only a few days are left for the new NFL calendar year to begin.

However, his contribution to the team was pretty good in the previous season. In 2021, he played in an overall 13 games as the safety and was able to finish the season with 81 tackles and a few interceptions.

In 3 years, Collins made 35 starts for the Commanders given he was sidelined in the second season owing to a serious injury. He was signed by the Giants and New York in the second round of the 2015 draft.

Apart from being in demand for various clubs, the star has various accolades under his name. He won three Pro Bowls with the Giants and was named first-team All-Pro in 2016. Considering his phenomenal talent and tactical approach, teams in need of a strong safety will try to make a deal. Indeed, a great opportunity awaits him in the open market.
