This year’s HOF enshrinement ceremony will recognize eight inductees. Following a poignant event in which they embedded the 2020 and 2021 classes at once due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Hall of Fame returns to just one classification this year. Richard Seymour leads this year’s class. It also includes five players, one mentor, and a game official.

On a day filled with memories for some of the greatest NFL athletes, 49ers defensive end Bryant Young presented a moment fans would never fail to notice. Young devoted a portion of his Hall of Fame speaking to his late son Colby. He lost his battle with pediatric cancer in 2016.

Young mentions, “I’d like to let you meet Colby. Born in August 2001, Colby loved life. He had an infectious smile, many interests, including football. He was a happy kid. In Fall 2014, when he was 13, Colby started having headaches. A CAT scan revealed a brain tumor… Five days later, surgeons removed the tumor and told us it was cancer.”

Bryant Young got his enshrinement into the Hall of Fame for his football skills. However, the former 49ers defensive tackle made a move that makes his son, Colby, unforgettable.

Let’s take a look at Bryant Young and the high road to enshrinement

On Saturday in Canton, Ohio, Bryant Young was one of six members inducted into the NFL’s Pro Football Hall of Fame. He spent the entirety of his 14-year NFL career with the San Francisco 49ers. He played an essential part in the 49ers’ fifth Super Bowl victory. However, Young’s path to the HOF stammered to a halt in 1998. The DL sustained a severe, career-ending leg injury. However, Bryant persisted and performed nine more seasons.

The San Francisco 49ers drafted Bryant Young seventh overall in 1994. He was named to the NFL All-Decade Team in the 1990s and in the Pro Bowl in 1999, a year after his injury. He also holds 89.5 career sacks for the 49ers. Furthermore, Bryant Young ensured everyone remembered Colby’s combat with pediatric cancer as the league inducted him into the Hall of Fame.
