Potential Dak Prescott Successor Being Lured Away From a ‘Jerry Jones Payday’ With No.1 Draft Pick Promise

Ohio State’s CJ Stroud holds the potential to turn the fortunes of any struggling NFL franchise. And although the Dallas Cowboys aren’t really struggling, it’s hard to ignore that they haven’t won or been to a Super Bowl since 1995. And then reports emerged last month that Stroud had piqued Jerry Jones’ interest. However, with a recent update coming in, it seems the player is moving away from Jerry. But why?

However, Jerry may have to go on with Dak Prescott, as Stroud seems to be packing his bags for Carolina. The quarterback impressed the top pick-holders a bit too much in the recent workouts. And with the Panthers grabbing the first pick in a wild trade last week, a star on Stroud’s helmet doesn’t seem likely.

After putting on a throwing show and impressing observers at the 2023 NFL Scouting Combine earlier this month, Buckeyes quarterback CJ Stroud had another workout in front of 30 NFL team representatives at the Ohio State Pro Day on Wednesday. The Carolina Panthers sent head coach Frank Reich and quarterback coach Josh McCown, and Stroud seemed to be getting along quite well with his potential future superiors.

Stroud completed his drills and had a friendly chat with Reich and McCown, including discussions about a friendly game of HORSE. “We’ll find a court. Play some HORSE. Maybe when you live in Charlotte, we’ll find a court,” the quarterback coach told CJ. And the Heisman-finalist quarterback indirectly confirmed his Panthers selection when he replied, “I’m gonna take his money.“

Carolina’s interest is justified after they just secured the first pick in this year’s NFL draft from the Chicago Bears after sending a few picks and wide receiver DJ Moore. Owner David Tepper was determined to get a franchise quarterback after the nightmare of going through four passers last season.

Jerry Jones will have to do with Dak Prescott

The Cowboys owner and GM never lost faith in his quarterback Prescott, despite finishing his 27th year in charge without silverware. Jerry reiterated after the 19-12 loss this season to the San Francisco 49ers in the divisional round that he believes in Dak to get them to the promised land. In his seven-year NFL career, Dak has led the Cowboys to the playoffs four times. But has never managed to get past the divisional round with a 2-4 overall postseason record. Maybe that is why Jones considered 21-year-old Coleridge Stroud for a while.

“I don’t know the how, but Dallas is absolutely intrigued by Stroud,” an anonymous source told Sports Illustrated Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher in February this year.

The draft is still almost a month away. And a lot can happen by then. Jerry Jones is known to be a man who gets what he wants. However, this time, Dallas’ 26th pick in the draft may be too far off to secure the billionaire’s wishes.
