Watson could still face a ban under the league’s conduct rules after a grand jury refuses to prosecute him on the accusations filed against him. Multiple litigations against him are still pending. The athlete bagged a huge trade opportunity with the Cleveland Browns, for which he renounced his no-trade clause. Brissett, 29, offers the Browns a youthful and more experienced backup quarterback.

Tom Pelissero reports that the Browns are trading veteran athlete Case Keenum to the Buffalo Bills for a 2022 7th round pick.

In 2022, the Browns could compel Brissett to make something for the roster. Cleveland picks Watson up in a blockbuster trade including three first-round picks and a new five-year, $230 million contract for the former Texans star.

Brissett opened five games for the Dolphins last season; stepping quarterback for an ailing Tua Tagovailoa. He led the team to 4 victories while throwing for 1,283 yards, 5 touchdowns, and 4 interceptions. He had previously played 4 seasons with the Indianapolis Colts, and one with the New England Patriots.

Is Cleveland playing it safe?

Behind the dynamic Watson, Cleveland will receive a 6-foot-4 quarterback with mobility. Brissett is a capable backup who has seen a lot of action. Moreover, the athlete could probably begin a couple of matches if Watson gets suspended. The Browns’ QB carousel is far from over. According to Ian Rapoport, they expect Mayfield to be dealt with soon.

Cleveland’s task for the day wasn’t done yet. The team had to be innovative with figures after adding Watson and ace wideout Amari Cooper. According to sources, the Browns have changed most of Cooper’s $20 million basic salaries into a signing bonus, resulting in two vacant years and savings of over $15 million on the salary limit in 2022. The new wideout and quarterback will earn a combined $66 million this season, but they will count only around $15 million against the salary cap.
