The NFL quarterback turned social activist Colin Kaepernick is catching headlines after teaming up with two-time Academy awards winner spike Lee. He will produce the first of its kind documentary based on the life and experiences of the former Niners quarterback.

Indeed, the life of Colin Kaepernick is far more different than other signal-callers in the league. His fight against social inequalities, his childhood, and his entry into the NFL, everything will be featured in this multi-part documentary.

Colin Kaepernick teams up with Spike Lee
The documentary will portray all the struggles of Kaepernick’s life. This includes Kaepernick growing up as the mixed-race son of white adoptive parents, his football stardom in high school, at the University of Nevada, and the San Francisco 49ers. Moreover, the eventual releases of the episodes will shed light on the quarterback kneeling during the national anthem.

ESPN announced that the academy winner will direct and produce the project, which is part of a first-look deal Kaepernick and his Ra Vision Media signed with ESPN parent Disney in 2020.

The director will film new interviews with Kaepernick. He will have the opportunity to access all the extensive unseen archives and collections of the quarterback. ESPN explained the documentary as “a full, first-person account of his journey.” Lee happens to be one of the most efficient and creative directors in the industry when it comes to documenting the lives of superstars on a silver screen.

In 2009, Lee directed “Kobe Doin’ Work,” on Los Angeles Lakers great Kobe Bryant. The director was also featured in the 30 for 30 installments Winning Time: Reggie Miller vs. the New York Knicks. This unnamed Kaepernick series is expected to begin its production soon; however, the release date for the show is not announced yet.

Before getting mired in controversies and hatred from different sections of society, Kaepernick played pro football for the last time in his career in 2016.
Kaepernick released his much-awaited children’s book
Although the NFL has encouraged teams to consider Kaepernick as their option, he hasn’t received any contracts for the upcoming season. However, he was trying his level best by participating in the exhibition workout sessions earlier this year. Recently, Kaepernick released a children’s book, “I color Myself Different” after 18 months of hard work.
