Kaepernick, after facing controversies for a year, was named the Citizen of the Year by the GQ Magazine in 2017. Congresswoman Maxine Waters, while talking to the TMZSports, reacted to the news.

She said“Oh, my goodness. That is fabulous. It is, right? I think he’s very deserving of this. Well, I think that he has sacrificed an awful lot for what he believes in. And people with the courage to do what they think is right, despite the consequences, must be respected.”

Waters thinks Kaepernick deserves to be named the Citizen of The Year as he has sacrificed a lot to solve an issue that needed attention. She called Kaepernick courageous and said people like him must be given respect.

The GQ magazine named Colin Kaepernick among Muhammad Ali and Jackie Robinson

GQ magazine, while awarding Kaepernick the Citizen Of The Year Award in 2017, believed Kaepernick is one of the most gifted quarterbacks on earth. Also, Kap is undeniably better than 75% of the other quarterbacks who were present in the league in 2017. The magazine named him among Muhammad Ali and Jackie Robinson who wanted to make a difference through their actions.

Colin Kaepernick shared the news on his Twitter account and thanked the GQ Magazine for honoring him as the Citizen of the Year 2017.

It has been almost six years, and Kaepernick has not been on any team’s roster. He was a starting quarterback with the San Francisco 49ers for six seasons. He had one of the best seasons in 2013 when he took his team to the Super Bowl, but eventually, they lost to the Baltimore Ravens.

For the 2022 season, he was given a chance for a workout with the Las Vegas Raiders. Although it was being said he impress the selectors, no official statement has come out from the Raiders regarding his signing. Will Colin Kaepernick make a comeback with the Raiders this season?
