Being a part of the NFL as an athlete is more than just showing up on the field. While stars have to deal with the press, alongside other appearances, the intersection of the entertainment and sports world has put the spotlight on them as ‘celebrities.’ Although their performance on the field is the most important part of it all, it doesn’t mean that these stars have an ‘all work no play’ attitude. At least for the most part.
Travel is a huge part of the league. Moving around for games ensures that athletes are often away from home. And life on the road has its own adventures according to one former defensive star. Former Bills star Marcellus Wiley revealed one anecdote that stood out during his early days in the league. And the story is anything but tame. Here’s what he said.

Marcellus Wiley spilled the beans
In a video posted on his YouTube channel, the former DE revealed one incident during his first road trip. Wiley stated that while they were at the hotel, one of the veteran CBs approached him and said that he would ‘hit him up.’ Elated that one of the team’s veterans had addressed him, Wiley stated that the CB asked him to come to a particular room in the hotel.
Upon entering the room, the former DE was in for quite a surprise. He said, “I see like four of my teammates in there and then I see a couple ladies in there, I’m like these numbers are off, why the hell am I here? And I quickly realized that those numbers weren’t off. Let’s just say they had a new math that they were running in there right.” Keeping in mind that they had to play a game the next day, Wiley’s shock turned to confusion.

As a rookie, the DE wasn’t sure about how the situation would turn out if he chose to remain and did not join his teammates in their endeavors. However, Wiley also added that he had other motives. According to him, the women who were present in the room were from Los Angeles. And since he was also from the same place, Wiley (at the time) thought he would check in with them later when he was back in LA and proceeded to go back to his hotel room. While his teammate’s invitation was perhaps a gesture of acceptance into the fold, Wiley didn’t partake in the activities of that evening. But the former CB didn’t just spill the beans on this particular incident.
Wiley lets fans in on a secret
Recently, Marcellus Wiley has been quite vocal about what he thinks of certain issues in the sports world. But this time around, he was the one revealing some secrets instead of discussing them on his channel. According to the former Pro Bowler, some of the wildest stories about being on the road in the NFL don’t involve players. Wiley pointed fingers at the coaches in the league, stating that they indulge in their slice of ‘fun.’
