Dak Prescott Injury: Mike McCarthy Provides Key Update About Cowboys Quarterback’s Return Date

The Dallas Cowboys will hope that the upcoming NFL season will be different from how things were last year. In 2020, the franchise saw itself lose its star quarterback Dak Prescott early on to injury.

Without Prescott and a near non-existent secondary, the Cowboys finished with a 6-10 losing season. Their regular-season record saw them post their worst performance since 2016.

But 2021 brings with it renewed hope. The Dallas Cowboys looked to plug the gaps on defense and even signed Prescott to a bumper new contract. With Prescott now the designated starter for the year to come, the question that lingers is when will he be ready to get on the field again.

According to Cowboys Head Coach Mike McCarthy, that day might not be too far away.

Dak Prescott slated to be ready for Cowboys training camp

Talking to The Dallas Morning News, McCarthy was asked whether or not Prescott would get the all-clear to attend training camp.

“Yeah, I don’t have any reason not to think that,” McCarthy said“I think this week in Phase Two will be a nice step in that direction.”

Franchises across the NFL have started organizing rookie mini-camps. But training camp involving the entire roster is slated to begin from July.

Prescott had suffered a gruesome double compound fracture to his ankle back on October 11, 2020, in a game against division rivals New York Giants.

When asked further about what Prescott may be expected to do, McCarthy said he expects business as usual from his talented quarterback.

“I think he’ll do most things,” McCarthy said. “There’s a plan in place that is coordinated with Britt (Brown) and Jim (Maurer) in the training room. But I know he feels really good.

He’s had some excellent workouts here in the past couple of weeks. I see him doing most of the work,” he added.

With Prescott getting the contract he deserves over the offseason, one can expect that quarterback to get back on the field all guns blazing.

McCarthy too will hope for the same from his quarterback. As another losing season could well put the head coach’s job on the line.
