Mike McCarthy endured a difficult debut season as Dallas Cowboys head coach in 2020. They finished third in the NFC East behind divisional winners Washington Football Team and the New York Giants. A poor defensive display and injuries to key players such as Dak Prescott ruined their shot at making the playoffs last season.
However, with Prescott scheduled to return in the preseason, the Cowboys will once again be one of the favorites to win the NFC East when the season starts in September 2021.

Popular American sports analyst Stephen A. Smith made an appearance on The Rich Eisen Show earlier this year. He was asked to give his two cents on who he thinks will win the NFC East in 2021. Here’s what he had to say in response to that.

He said, “I would say Dallas Cowboys because I think Dak Prescott will come back. I think he’ll be healthy, they’ll have to franchise tag him if they don’t reach an agreement. They’re not stupid to lose him and you know, put their season in the hands of Andy Dalton.”

“We’ll see what happens. The Eagles situation, obviously, is what it is. Having to rely on Jalen Hurts now that they’ve traded Carson Wentz. You got that situation going on and you also have to take a look at the Washington Football Team and their quarterback situation,” Smith said on the show.

The Eagles and Washington are definitely in a transition period at the moment. But Joe Judge-coached New York Giants might be able to challenge the Cowboys for top honors in the NFC East later this year. With Daniel Jones entering his third year and Saquon Barkley set to return, anything is possible for the Giants in 2021.
