The Thursday night meeting between The Raiders and the Cowboys became historic, as is the most-watched regular-season match in the history of the NFL since 1990. 

The figure of 38.5 million was determined using the combined audience of Nielsen’s Fast National ratings and the expected CBS total out-of-home viewership. They’ll announce the precise figure on Tuesday after double-checking everything.

The out-of-home audience was not included in Nielsen’s instantly available metrics system until last season. They never released these numbers to the public for a good chunk of time before. Whatever the case used to be, this year we are looking at a massive number. Last year’s Thanksgiving game between Dallas Cowboys and Washington pulled a whopping 30.3 million average viewership on Fox.
