NFL franchise Green Bay Packers wide receiver Davante Adams might have just passed away an opportunity at gaining NFL immortality. The breakout player from last season in Green Bay, he was on course to breaking Don Hutson’s all-time franchise record of 99 TD receptions. However, Adams will now be on course to sign a 5-year contract worth $28.5 million per year with the Las Vegas Raiders.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers will be receiving the Raiders‘ first-round pick and second-round pick as part of the blockbuster trade. The shocking news comes a day after the re-signing of their quarterback Aaron Rodgers to a massive 4-year contract extension.

It would be an unfulfilled dream for the Packers fans who can no longer see that record broken shortly. The record was there for the taking for Adams with Rodgers behind him to supply the ball in his running routes.

But by joining up with the Raiders, he will be having a reunion with former Fresno State Bulldogs teammate QB Derek Carr. It seems there has been a huge influx of talent into the AFC West Division with teams like the Broncos, Chiefs, and Chargers all making significant trade moves.

Davante Adams loses his chance to break Don Hutson’s record

During his decade-long NFL career in Wisconsin, Hutson did display a dominance that wasn’t seen much before in that era of the NFL. He did end his career in the league while holding 19 NFL records in career yards, touchdowns, and receptions. He was a game-changer during that era of American football and doubled the output of the nearest competitor in every category.

Hutson was a trailblazer and the best the league had to offer from the mid-1930s to the mid-1940s. He was also part of the NFL first-team All-Pro 8 times while leading the league in receptions 8 times, receiving yardage 7 times, and touchdowns 9 times.

The departure of Adams means much more than missing out on an NFL record but also means the end of a fruitful association. It also means the creation of a void in the Packers offensive line of a player who was the No.1 target last season for QB Aaron Rodgers. The Packers fans will have to wait for another decade or two before any receiver would come close to this amazing record.
