In the last few weeks, former league MVP Cam Newton has gone from being a washed-up quarterback to one contending for a top spot after publicly dissing the remaining 32 passers in the league. The video he released showed him in rage ready to take the field and showcase his talent. However, two weeks since his vengeful pre-workout video, Cam has shifted his stance after getting a better understanding of the quarterback market.

In a sudden turn of events, Superman is ready to take on a backup role in the National Football League. However, the change of heart is not all-franchise inclusive. Cam has named a small list of quarterbacks he wouldn’t mind sitting on the sideline for.

Cam Newton adopts humility after dissing video

On 21st March, 33-year-old Cam Newton announced that he will be throwing for NFL teams in his Alma Mater, Auburn’s Pro Day workouts. “Tell me how these randoms keep getting jobs. Don’t worry about it. I’m going to show you. I can’t wait to show you. I love it,” Newton said in the video before ending with, “Ain’t 32 motherf——s better than me.”

Cam did a decent job, throwing some effortless dimes. However, the lack of on-field game time in the last two seasons has come up to be a major impediment in Newton landing a starting quarterback role with any NFL franchise.

In a YouTube video from Wednesday night, Newton reiterated the same emotions, albeit with minor adjustments. “I know a lot of people have a lot of things to say in regard to my future in the NFL. And I wanted to set the record straight by saying this is how I feel. There ain’t 32 guys that are better than me. But I also know I could also be a backup. And I’m willing to be a backup,” Superman said.

The quarterbacks on Cam’s list

The former Carolina Panthers passer has not included all 32 QB names in his list of people he could play backup for. Among the ones present are Cleveland Browns’ Deshaun Watson and the non-exclusive franchise quarterback for Baltimore, Lamar Jackson.

Besides that, the young Justin Fields and the Chicago Bears are another harbor Cam can see himself anchoring on. Others on the list included Dolphin Tua Tagovailoa, Tennessee quarterback Malik Willis, Philly’s Jalen Hurts, Buffalo’s Josh Allen, free-agent Aaron Rodgers, and Sam Howell.

The last full season that Cam Newton played, came during his time with the New England Patriots back in 2020. A season Cam ended with 8 touchdowns and 10 interceptions with the Patriots finishing 7-8. Do you think the former No 1 draft pick deserves a backup role in an NFL team this season? Or will one of the quarterback-needy franchises bring him in as the starter?
