Deion Sanders has had an impact on many during his time at Jackson State. But, the former two-time Super Bowl champion’s career with them as a head coach came to an end. Jackson State had a chance to level with North Carolina Central in overtime but failed. One particular player took the loss to heart.
Hayden Hagler had an opportunity to haul in a touchdown pass but wasn’t successful. Following that up with an incomplete play paved a path for NC State to take the victory 41-34. A very distraught Hagler seemed to take the brunt of the loss on his shoulders, but his head coach wasn’t going to let that happen.

Sanders’ influence as a player and coach is very evident even in a 40-second clip. Hayden Hagler looked inconsolable and in tears. Losing a game is always hard, but knowing that there could’ve been a shot at victory if it wasn’t for your mistake is guilt-inducing. But Sanders took matters into his own hands and approached a teary Hagler in the locker room.

It ain’t on you, it’s on us,” before adding, “We lost together, do you understand that?” Sander told Hagler that he wanted him to fight through adversity. He continued, “That moment is gonna make you who you want to be for the rest of your life. You feel me? Let’s do it. Come on, baby. Love you man.” More than a regular pep talk, the NFL icon’s conversation with the young player gives fans insight into the bonds he’s built with the team during his tenure there.
