Since the NIL agreement was made for college players, there have been various opinions related to it. Some are happy with college players finally being able to earn money, while others have cast doubts over it. Former NFL player, and current Jackson State head coach Deion Sanders recently gave a brief explanation regarding his stance on the NIL.

In an appearance on I AM ATHLETE, Deion was asked his opinion regarding college players getting paid well before turning pro. This came to light after the comments of Alabama’s head coach Nick Saban. Saban claimed that Texas A&M has paid millions of dollars to recruit players with the help of NIL.

Talking about his view on paying Millions of dollars to players in college, Deion Sanders said, “I would never do that if we even had it, because that would destroy the fabric of our team, that would destroy all of my thought process and how I teach work, reward I teach work um you paying kids millions of dollars in college, how are they still home. How do they stay hungry, how do you pay a kid more than you pay coaches in college?”

Deion certainly has the experience of playing at the biggest stage in the NFL. The former Cowboys cornerback is a hall of fame, and he firmly believes that NIL can spoil the college players. Primarily because the young players will get distracted by the money that they will be getting. Moreover, they wouldn’t work harder to reach the NFL if money is already there with them.

Deion further talked about how college players getting paid millions of dollars will spoil them. He said, You’re risking the that line (integrity) of college football. Let me tell you what I mean by that, the media don’t attack college players like they attack pro players. They don’t do it because you’re still an amateur, and they don’t say certain things too.”

Sanders added, “You never see them blast a college quarterback or someone, you never see that. When these guys start getting paid and you’re making more than the reporters that’s reporting and some of your coaches that opens you up for scrutiny man. These kids ain’t built like that, they’re not ready for that mentally and emotionally, and psychologically.”

Deion being the head coach of a college football team is certainly right with his comments. However, many people disagree with his opinion. Primarily because people believe that young players need to get paid for their services to their college, as they are bringing good revenue for the institution.
