Jackson State University has been in the headlines ever since Prime Time Deion Sanders took over the head coaching responsibilities in September 2020. He left in December 2022 but his legacy remained. After becoming the only HBCU this year to see one of its players (Isaiah Bolden) get picked in the NFL draft, JSU is in the news once again. This time, it was an extremely special occasion for Coach Prime’s middle son, Shilo Sanders.

When Deion Sanders left for the Colorado Buffaloes, he took Shilo’s brother and quarterback, Shedeur, with him. However, Shilo stayed back to complete his graduation at JSU. The day finally arrived on April 29. And Shilo even planned the perfect graduation ceremony marching routine before receiving his college credentials.

A memorable day for the Sanders family

Shilo Sanders began his collegiate career in South Carolina after turning down a football scholarship from his father’s Alma Mater, Florida State. The defensive back started in four games for SC as a True Freshman in 2019. He also made his way to the SEC 1st year Academic Honor Roll that year. When Deion joined the Tigers, Shilo transferred to join his father and brother, Shedeur, at the historically black college.

Shedeur left for the Colorado Buffaloes with Deion. However, Shilo stuck around to earn his college diploma in advertising. Prime Time Deion was over the moon about his son’s achievement. “So proud of my favorite son, Shilo Sanders, for graduating today! The best is yet to come, son. I’m so so so proud of you! Now you know what time it is,” the former San Francisco 49ers and Dallas Cowboys 2X Super Bowl champion cornerback said.

Shilo looked like he had been prepping for this day as he belted out a flawless J6 March when his name was announced. Also working for Shilo’s excitement was the reunion with Deion and Shedeur.

Shilo will join Deion Sanders in Colorado after his graduation

Shilo shined for the JSU Tigers under his father, Deion Sanders’ leadership. He had 39 tackles and 4 interceptions, eventually securing All-SWAC honors as the Tigers became back-to-back SWAC Champions. A knee injury kept Shilo on the sidelines for a while in 2022. However, the safety still recorded 20 tackles and 1 interception last season. After losing to North Carolina Central in the Celebration Bowl, Shilo entered the transfer portal and decided to join his father in the Pac-12.

Deion and his sons achieved unforeseen success at JSU. Prime Time left with a 27-6 overall and 19-2 conference record. And he joined CU with the hopes of winning a national championship with the Buffaloes. Surely, the NFL world can hope for the Coach Prime magic to be in full effect once Shilo and Shedeur join forces under their father.
