Derek Carr on Signing $121 Million Raiders Contract: ‘I Told My Agent That Either I Was Going to Be a Raider or I Would Be Playing Golf’

If the 2022 offseason hasn’t already seen many massive trades and gains, there’s fresh information out of Nevada. The Raiders recently gave a clear pronouncement upon the future of their long-time play-caller. The ongoing speculations over the extension of Derek Carr have finally come to a stop. Quarterback Carr will stay in the Raid for a longer period.
The Las Vegas Raiders have become one of the busiest AFC franchises during the offseason free agency window. With new management on board, Las Vegas has undertaken several significant transactions both on and off the game. Most notably, the transaction for wide receiver Davante Adams. Given Adams and Carr’s connection, this would be the Raiders’ second enormous accomplishment.

The Raiders secure the ‘Derek Carr’ benefit
Derek Carr and the Raiders have agreed to a contract extension of a three-year agreement worth $121.5 million, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. According to Mike Garafolo, Carr’s contract deal runs through the 2025 campaign and incorporates a no-trade provision. The organization later revealed the renewal.

Carr’s new contract will pay him an average of $40.5 million per year, placing him fifth among all quarterbacks in terms of average yearly compensation.

In all, Derek Carr is set to earn $141.3 million over four years, with $100 million of it coming over the next three years. The deal also includes a no-trade clause, source says.

Moreover, in a press conference following the signing of the contract, quarterback Carr stated, “I’ve only wanted to be a Raider, and I told my agent, I said ‘I’m either going to be a Raider or I’m going to be playing golf. Like I don’t want to be playing anywhere else.’ That’s how much this place means to me.”

Carr, the AFC’s longest-tenured quarterback, threw for a career-high 4,804 yards in 2021. Having 23 touchdowns and 14 interceptions, guiding the Raiders to their first playoff appearance since 2016.

The Raiders have spent a lot of money to establish the starting spots, including DE Maxx Crosby and Edge Rusher Chandler Jones. The Raiders have not only committed to Carr; They have also boosted his probability of victory with the acquisition of Davante Adams earlier this offseason. With Carr’s future secured, the Raiders have a quality pass-catch tandem that has been with each other since college.
