While uncertainties are looming over the availability of Deshaun Watson in the locker room, it seems the Cleveland Browns have come up with a viable option. The AFC North franchise is going after the demoted quarterback of the Niners, Jimmy Garoppolo. Although he is stripped of his duties as a starter for the upcoming season, Garoppolo can find a new home and a better position with the Browns. However, there is a condition that needs to be fulfilled before the franchise engages in talks with the veteran.

According to the reports, the Cleveland Browns will consider Jimmy Garoppolo only if Watson’s suspension extends beyond six games. More than six games will assure Garoppolo half of the entire 2022 season. The situation to change into reality seems very likely.

Earlier, Deshaun Watson was ruled for a six-game suspension by the disciplinary officer jointly appointed by the NFL and NFLPA. However, the management didn’t seem satisfied with the verdict and resorted to appealing for an indefinite suspension and a huge lump fine for the quarterback.

Moreover, per the recent reports by CBS Sports, Watson might accept an offer that gives him an eight-match ban and $5 million in fine. Well, further updates on the matter are yet to arrive, and there is a need for more clarity in the situation.

In the case of Garoppolo, the atmosphere is clear; however, the veteran is carrying a massive $27 million salary cap entering the 2022 season. So the team that hires him needs to take care of these expenses as well.

Jimmy Garoppolo gets a green signal to enter the field

The 30-year-old almost spent the entire offseason in rehab treating a torn capsule in his throwing shoulder. Recently, he was cleared from all kinds of restrictions, and the quarterback is healthy to get back to the field. Last week, 49ers general manager John Lynch gave updates regarding his health.

“Jimmy’s doing a really good job,” Niners GM told the media. “Kind of building his stamina in the throwing program that was prescribed all along and working out really strongly and aggressively. It was made with Dr. [Neal] ElAttrache [who performed the surgery], but he has no restrictions and I’m watching him throw it out here right now. He looks pretty good.” John Lynch adds.

The two-time Super Bowl champion had a great last season connecting for 20 touchdown passes and 12 interceptions in 15 games. But his health has always been a primary concern for the teams. In the absence of Watson and Baker Mayfield leaving the side, Garoppolo happens to be the best bait for the upcoming season.
