And that is exactly how Patrick Mahomes’ words created a bit of chaos in the NFL community today.

After their win against the Los Angeles Chargers, Mahomes heaped praises onto his teammate Travis Kelce. Kelce, who was the recipient of all three touchdown passes for the Kansas City Chiefs on the night, was instrumental in the second-half comeback win. After the game, Mahomes calls Kelce the “greatest tight end of all time.”

According to Mahomes, what sets Kelce apart from players like Rob Gronkowski and Shannon Sharpe, is his competitive spirit and his ability to inspire his teammates. “He just competes. He’s gonna keep fighting until the very end. When you see that, not only is it impressive for him, but it gets other guys going.”

“Like I said, he’s one of the best if not the best tight end of all time, but he’s coming to work every day to get better. So that shows you, whenever you step in the facility, you’re like, ‘Man, I’ve got to get to work, if this guy is doing that, I have to at least match that.’”

Kelce is also his first choice to take the Chargers’ safety Derwin James, man to man. He says, “If he’s man to man, I’m gonna give him [Kelce] a chance, and he’s gonna win most of them. They’ve got Derwin. Derwin is going to win his battles because he’s probably the best safety in the league, but I’m going to give him [Kelce] a chance because I know how great he is.”

As expected, Mahomes‘ words did not go down well with a lot of fans in the community. Although he did get some support, a lot of fans called him out for placing Kelce above greats like Gronkowski and Sharpe. Safe to say, not a lot of people take Mahomes’ opinion on this subject seriously.

Whether the NFL community accepts his opinion or not, Mahomes is sure to have impacted Kelce positively with his words. The duo has been the driving force for the Chiefs this season, and Kelce has made sure time and again that Mahomes does not feel the impact of a lack of receivers.
