Apart from a poor defensive display, the failure of experienced players to step in and make up for Dak’s presence was a reason behind their below-par finish. One player who was subjected to major criticism in 2020 was big-name running back, Ezekiel Elliott.

Zeke finished the season with 979 rushing yards and 6 rushing touchdowns. His output has significantly dropped since he signed a contract extension in 2019.

It is important to remember that Elliott signed a six-year extension with the Cowboys worth $90 million ($50 million in guarantees). This will keep him in Dallas until 2026.

In 2 games for Dallas Cowboys in 2021, Ezekiel Elliott has rushed for 104 yards with 1 rushing touchdown thus far. He is continued to be put under immense scrutiny by the media. But the 26-year old Cowboys superstar is not allowing the noise to distract him from his main goal – to come through for his teammates this season.

“You hear it but what really matters is what’s going on in this building. They’re not the one signing the checks. They’re not the ones sending the wires. So I mean I don’t think it matters,” Elliot told Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News.
