At 26, Patrick Mahomes has entered the upper echelon of elite NFL quarterbacks. His accomplishments on the field already rival those who have been in the league way longer than he has. A Super Bowl Champion and NFL MVP, Mahomes uses his influence and clout to the benefit of the underprivileged, drawing comparisons to another iconic NFL QB, Colin Kaepernick.

Players like Tom Brady, Aaron Rodgers, Peyton Manning and more dominated the league across generations. But recently, we’ve seen the likes of Mahomes, Lamar Jackson, Dak Prescott and more reach heights one wouldn’t even think of a decade or two ago. It all began with Colin Kaepernick, but he doesn’t even play in the NFL anymore.

Is Patrick Mahomes more influential than Colin Kaepernick?

By default, Colin Kaepernick becomes a figure of social justice across the globe, not just America. His stance changed the game completely in terms of delivering a strong message by using your clout and platform. With that being said, Mahomes has way too big of a platform to not bring about a change.

Mahomes’ connection to the fans isn’t contained within Kansas City, Missouri, or his hometown of Tyler, Texas. His reach is global; perhaps more global than Colin Kaepernick could’ve ever expanded his vision. Without a slight to Kap, his efforts towards bringing about societal change doesn’t go unnoticed, but we cannot disregard the efforts Mahomes has taken already.

An ESPN writer even entitled him as the icon of the league. “To have a quarterback [Mahomes] who not only won the Super Bowl but a quarterback who might be the best player? Oh, that’s got us there. The absolute icon of the league,” Howard Bryant (ESPN writer) said.

Similarly, Mahomes joined hands with Tyrann Mathieu and LeBron James, among other athletes, for the More than a vote campaign.
