Elon Musk’s new agenda of charging the blue check mark for $8 created a lot of spurs across social media. Even celebrities raised eyebrows at his propaganda of levying extra charges for rolling out the verification marks.

Some of them even asked why there was a need for blue badges, especially when the Billionaire vocalized free speech. Although the reason is still unclear, a 19-year-old computer science student has blown up Musk’s new scheme. First, he created a new Twitter account with an id, @AdamSchefterN0T.

The profile picture was exactly the same as that of the NFL insider, and the display name read, ‘Adam Schefter’ with a blue verification mark next to it. Soon he made a tweet, a bluff that said, ‘Josh McDaniels, head coach of the Oakland Raiders, was fired.’

This message took no time to spread like a wildfire, with the netizens actually believing him as Adam Schefter. The post garnered more than 3000 likes and 1000 retweets, as usual for Schefter’s genuine messages.

Eventually, it took some time for the netizens to understand the reality of this phony account as the bio correctly reads, “I am not Adam Schefter, this is a parody account.

The account got suspended later on. However, this setup showered some light on Musk’s new policy and how it works. Basically, anyone who subscribes to Twitter Blue paying $8 a month shall get the verification badge next to their name. Despite the account’s past activities, they can now obtain enough traction with the audience, believing it to be a trusted source.

What was the policy laid out by Elon Musk before rolling out the badges?

The $44 Billion mammoth deal saw extreme turnarounds in this short period. Starting from firing top executives, Elon Musk decided to bring a major revamp to the technical side of the platform.

Charging the blue checkmark was his first agenda on the list. “[Users] may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations to mislead, confuse, or deceive others, nor use a fake identity in a manner that disrupts the experience of others on Twitter.” The rule says according to the new policies of the company.

Regardless, it turns out the college-going kid followed all the necessities, paying the mandatory $8 and changing his bio to mention that it was a parody account. Despite all these adjustments, the tweet was able to get a humongous reach. So what do you think? What to expect from these new regulations?
