Some are bothered by one NFL rule that has been removed from other leagues
The criticism of the rule where the defense gets possession of the ball because of a fumble in the endzone has been quite contested. The XFL and USFL have let go of this rule. But, the NFL continues to champion its application.
The worst rule in football continues to be in the NFL rulebook. For 2023, the XFL and USFL are dumping it. https://t.co/VjlirGUkNa

A majority of the NFL world disagrees with the notion that this is negative, vouching for the original rule to remain unchanged. It is quite rare to see fans unanimously agree on anything. But their stance on the rule was quite clear.
Fans believe that the ball rightfully deserves to be handed off to the defense instead of the offense getting possession at the spot where it was fumbled. Here’s how they backed their arguments.
Fans unanimously declare their views and refuse to part with the ‘Derek Carr’ rule
The NFL world seldom agrees on matters of importance. But, with regard to this issue, they were of one accord. One fan logically stated.
I like that rule. Why reward a team for fumbling the ball. The reward should go to the defense.

Another user exclaimed.
Why should the offense get the ball back though? They fumbled thats their mistake and their problem surely.
— Kevin Kiely (@kevk37) February 15, 2023
Another user exasperatedly said.
For the 10000th time. The Defense protects the goal line. If the offense fumbles the ball past the line they should lose possession.
Dont fumble.

Some fans have renamed the rule with regard to one not-so-beloved player.
Can we call this the Derek Carr cause he has probably done this more than any QB in the last 60 years
— Handsome Rob (@blvck_hammer) February 15, 2023
Ah yes, the Derek Carr rule. As a Raider fan I always yeed whenever he extended the ball. Glad I don't have to see that again.
— Carlo Cino (@carlocino) February 15, 2023
Carr single handedly keeping it alive
— LueeV☠️🏴☠️ (@EastlakeRaider) February 15, 2023
One user supported his arguments by stating.
Bad take imo. Take care of the ball at the goal line don’t reward sloppy play.
Also there are 5 worse rules I can think of off the top of my head
— Blue Ribbon Bets (@BlueRibbonBets) February 15, 2023
These fans bluntly stated.
Failure to understand the rule doesn't make it bad.
