After various tennis professionals joined Pickleball, the sport gained a lot of popularity. According to a report by the Association of Pickleball Professionals, more than 36.5 million people played pickleball from August 2021 to August 2022 in the United States. That’s a huge increase from the previous estimate of 5 million players in 2021. Pickleball has also attracted the attention and investment of celebrities like LeBron James, Tom Brady, and Kevin Durant.

NFL pro Deshaun Watson recently joined the pickleball craze and had a blast playing and celebrating in his own unathletic style. Cleveland Browns QB shared a video of his fun-filled event on social media, recently.

Uncomfortable yet hilarious sports mishap

NFL Pros first pickleball game. Deshaun Watson posted a video on his Instagram story on July 4, 2023, of himself playing pickleball with some NFL friends, including Jordan Love. In the video, Watson said that it was his first time playing pickleball, “10 am this morning was my first time seeing the court and picking up a paddle. So, it turned out well though.”

And Watson was seen ‘rolling the court’ with his paddle during a game. It was such an uncomfortable athletic situation. There was also a suitcase full of cash (maybe prize money) on the court. The players joined the pickleball game and had a blast getting comfortable and relaxing, as Packers QB Jordan Love and other NFL players showed off their skills in the fun activity too.

On the other side of the story, despite Watson signing a five-year, $230 million extension with the Browns, reports suggest that he won’t have much influence on major choices.

Browns’ season prep: Watson’s partial influence

After missing the playoffs last year, the Browns are gearing up for a new season with high expectations. Their star quarterback, Deshaun Watson, has some input on team matters, but not much clout on big decisions, according to Mary Kay Cabot, a veteran Browns reporter.

“If the Browns decide they need to make some changes, I don’t think Watson would have much of a say. That’s above his pay grade, and the Browns aren’t about to start letting players have that kind of influence,” Cabot wrote in her July 3 column.

Per Cabot, the Browns respect Watson’s preferences on plays and game control, as well as his opinions on certain players. However, when it comes to major changes, the team leaves those to the higher-ups in the organization, who don’t want players to wield too much power.

Anthony Pettis’ quote “Attitude determines efforts” upholds a sports-centric ideology that attracted me to this vibrant world of team spirit, enthusiasm, and emotions. More specifically, it was the UFC domain that encouraged my strive as an avid follower. Soon I found myself resonating with another divergent sport- the American football. Ironically, just like UFC, its in-game energy brought out the calmness within me. This aspect, eventually, led me to step into the arena of writing, and I cultivated a love for NFL through words, stories, and experiences. Precisely, I have come to enjoy watching QB of the Bengals, Joe Burrow, take on the field and exhibit his magic. It is his serenity and accuracy during the match that inspires me to narrate the insider scoop on the player's thoughts and feelings. This allows my articles to contrive on three pillars—facts, analysis, and opinions. Throughout my journey, hence, I have covered varied aspects of the matches, from the core sport highlights to the off-court banter. I believe this connection to the NFL game on so many levels has become my reason for generating over 700 articles, hoarding the interest of thousands of readers, and achieving Publishing Rights at EssentiallySports. Away from the NFL enthusiasm, I spend my time glued to the screen watching other sports and gaining beneficial knowledge.
