‘Just when you thought he was out, he pulled himself back in.’ The line goes just as well for former NFL wideout Antonio Brown as it did for Al Pacino in the movie The Godfather III. In an unending chapter of headlines and controversies, AB has the latest addition. However, this one is bound to put a smile on the face of even the most controversy-averse NFL fan. Antonio Brown is suiting up to become a pass catcher once again.

Hold that horse! No, it’s not the National Football League. That ship has possibly sailed. The former Pittsburgh Steelers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers WR is getting on the gridiron for the team he has vested his interest in at the moment. The franchise he owns.

Ever since AB joined as the owner of the Albany Empires of the National Arena League, his tenure has been ridden with roadblocks. There have been issues surrounding the payment of players and staff members, which also saw the suspension of eight players and the head coach. This has presumably stemmed from the low ticketing revenue at Empires games. And Brown has the perfect solution for this problem.

What’s more entertaining than having Antonio Brown on the sidelines? Having Antonio Brown playing wide receiver. Indeed, ticket sales will receive a massive boost as fans will get to witness the Super Bowl LV champion suit up for one of his team’s home games this season. AB previously promised to play if the MVP Arena sold out. However, since that didn’t happen, the 7x Pro Bowler has taken things into his own hands.

Albany Empire Owner Antonio Brown told me he is going to suit up and play for the Empire as soon as their next home game May 27th at MVP Arena,” WNYT NewsChannel 13’s Rodger Wyland tweeted.

Tom Brady’s former teammate, whose father also played for Albany, will don the Empires uniform on only one home game. That’ll either be on May 27 against the Fayetteville Mustangs or June 17 against the Jacksonville Sharks.

Surprisingly, not many from the Empires camp are opposed to the idea despite the tension and turmoil in the last month.

Brown last played in the NFL on January 2, 2022, for the Buccaneers. It’s tough to forget the infamous shirtless walk-off when he left the field in the middle of the game against the NY Jets. And many fans thought that AB’s influence in the locker room could be detrimental to the 1-3 Albany Empires. However, head coach Tom Menas, who was fired and re-hired within the last month, is absolutely ecstatic. Averaging 2500 fans per home game, Menas thinks AB’s impact on sales will be profound.

His presence alone will impact the game. Whether he gets the ball in the pass or doesn’t get the ball in the pass,” Menas said. “This will make stories for every one of the players in that game that get to play with AB. It’d be pretty incredible.”

Will Brown use the Arena League as a training trampoline to ultimately propel him to an NFL comeback? Or is AB finally just stepping into his owner’s shoes and pulling out all the stops?
