Former Jacksonville Jaguars Linebacker Faces Legal Battle After Being Charged With Unlawful Sexual Activity

Telvin Smith has not played in the NFL since the end of the 2018 season. However, he has made the news for an unfortunate and despicable reason. As per the Duval County jail website, Smith was arrested last night. Jacksonville Jaguars are aware of the report involving their former player. But they declined to comment as the investigation is ongoing.

Smith was charged with a single count of unlawful sexual activity with minors. As per an ESPN report, he was booked into the jail at 5:20 pm ET. The 29-year-old was released on a $50,003 bond.

ESPN credits law enforcement sources for information about the case. As per their report, Smith repeatedly had sex with an underaged female both at his residence as well as the vehicle. The incidents took place in August and September last year.

As Telvin Smith is older than 24, he could be found guilty by the jury under a second-degree felony. In this case, he faces “no more than 15 years in prison and the potential fine of up to $10,000.”
Unfortunately, things don’t look good for the NFL player. This is not the first time he has been embroiled in legal issues. Last November, a black Cadillac was towed away from his house. Once more ESPN’s sources link it to the alleged incidents with the 17-year-old.

Smith was a 5th round draft in 2014. He had 3 years remaining on his contract and was set to make $30 million if he returned.
The linebacker missed just 4 games across 5 seasons and registered the most solo tackles in the league since starting his first game. In 2018 he played the Pro-Bowl. In 2017, he scored 3 defensive touchdowns en route the Jaguars runners-up finish in the AFC. The team lost to Tom Brady and Rob Gronkowski’s New England Patriots 24-20.

It seems a long road ahead for the 29-year old who took time off to “get his world in order.” But all he seems to have done is turn it upside down and plunge further into an abyss.
