Former NFL Man Claims Drafting a Quarterback Might Not Be the Answer for the Jets

New York Jets have finally managed to offload under-pressure quarterback Sam Darnold this week. The former 3rd overall pick endured 3 difficult years in the Big Apple. He was brought in as the man to lead the Jets back to the NFL Playoffs. However, he failed to do so.

Darnold was traded to NFC South franchise, Carolina Panthers, in exchange for 3 future draft picks. He is reportedly going to be the Panthers’ starter as Teddy Bridgewater is looking for a move elsewhere despite signing a long-term deal last year.

With Adam Gase and Sam Darnold both out of the picture, the Jets are also looking to build from scratch in 2021. They own the 2nd overall draft pick and are reportedly eyeing up a move for BYU Cougars star, Zach Wilson.

Former Washington Football Team guard-turned-analyst Mark Schlereth appeared on The Colin Cowherd Show earlier this week.
He spoke about the New York Jets and what they need to do in the coming months in order to ensure a successful spell with whichever young quarterback they select at the 2021 NFL Draft.
He said, “We’ve been sold this bill of goods, that all you have to do is draft a quarterback and all your problems are solved, right? That’s all you have to do. And then we act surprised…
“But now Sam Darnold couldn’t fix it, so now Zach Wilson will fix it for us? I mean, it’s such a flawed way of thinking that you’re just going to get a different quarterback and all those things will be fixed.
“You know, I think about quarterbacks in this general just general terms of covering works. There are literally we have been sold this bill of goods that if you get a quarterback, you just cover a bunch of works.

“So I think there are three or four quarterbacks in the league that cover works, the rest of the quarterbacks in the league expose your works,” Schlereth said on the show.
Wilson is arguably one of the top prospects in the upcoming NFL Draft. But the likes of Justin Fields, Trey Lance, and Mac Jones, will also be considered by Jets GM Joe Douglas and his scouting team.
