Pro Bowl quarterback and onetime Super Bowl champion Russell Wilson is once again facing trouble. Wilson made his debut for the Denver Broncos team on September 12, 2022, when the Broncos opened their season in Seattle. Throughout the season, he managed to accumulate 117 yards and score 1 touchdown. However, in the NFL‘s “Top 100 Players of 2022” rankings, Wilson is currently positioned at number 61. Not a good position!

Since then, Broncos’ quarterback Russell Wilson performed poorly. NFL analyst Emmanuel Acho asked former Green Bay Packers wide receiver James Jones on the show SPEAK if Wilson might get benched this season. Jones said firmly, “Zero man.”

No good news for Russell Wilson

On the show Jones exclaimed- Last year, Russell Wilson wasn’t himself. He struggled like [49ers QB] Sam Darnold, sometimes seeing things that weren’t there. Open teammates, and easy throws, he missed them. Even his stats were bad, ranked 31st in the league. “It looked like at times he was kind of like [49ers QB] Sam Darnold, seeing ghosts, right?”

Former WR explained the Broncos paid backup QB Jarrett Stidham well, hinting they have an option. “We have a guy behind you we’re paying 10 million that could manage a football game.”

If Wilson falters, Stidham steps in. Wilson might not fit Coach Sean Payton’s system, and he won’t suddenly score more. Maybe around mid-season, Stidham takes over. The Broncos expected Wilson to boost their team, but, If Russ doesn’t deliver and win football games for this team, which I don’t think he will, he is going to be benched halfway during this season.”

A 245-million-dollar quarterback like Wilson should win games, not just manage them. Therefore, Stidham, the backup, will likely replace him midway through the season, per James Jones.

Russell Wilson could be swiftly replaced

Per reports, head coach Sean Payton is contemplating the possibility of dropping Wilson. Despite Sean Payton’s support and affirmation that Wilson ‘still has the ability,’ NFL analyst Louis Riddick suggests there’s no certainty that Wilson will start his 12th NFL season at full strength.

During ESPN’s Get Up, Riddick stated, “Jarrett Stidham is a very capable backup, and it does bear watching that if for some reason it doesn’t work out, and Sean thinks Russell isn’t carrying his weight and his vision, Stidham will be in there.” Also, Stidham has participated in both of the Broncos’ pre-season games, narrowly losing to the Arizona Cardinals and the San Francisco 49ers.

While Stidham struggled initially against the Cardinals, he redeemed himself against the 49ers, throwing for 130 yards after going five for 15. Consequently, NFL experts are anticipating more from backup QB Stidham than from starting QB Russell Wilson.

Anthony Pettis’ quote “Attitude determines efforts” upholds a sports-centric ideology that attracted me to this vibrant world of team spirit, enthusiasm, and emotions. More specifically, it was the UFC domain that encouraged my strive as an avid follower. Soon I found myself resonating with another divergent sport- the American football. Ironically, just like UFC, its in-game energy brought out the calmness within me. This aspect, eventually, led me to step into the arena of writing, and I cultivated a love for NFL through words, stories, and experiences. Precisely, I have come to enjoy watching QB of the Bengals, Joe Burrow, take on the field and exhibit his magic. It is his serenity and accuracy during the match that inspires me to narrate the insider scoop on the player's thoughts and feelings. This allows my articles to contrive on three pillars—facts, analysis, and opinions. Throughout my journey, hence, I have covered varied aspects of the matches, from the core sport highlights to the off-court banter. I believe this connection to the NFL game on so many levels has become my reason for generating over 700 articles, hoarding the interest of thousands of readers, and achieving Publishing Rights at EssentiallySports. Away from the NFL enthusiasm, I spend my time glued to the screen watching other sports and gaining beneficial knowledge.
