When it comes to noteworthy talents and their contracts, Patrick Mahomes has been the constant point of speculation for a while. Rumors around Mahomes and his impressive 10-year, $450 million contract have been a staple for the average NFL fan, and while Mahomes tends to stray away from such conversations, Pat McAfee took it upon himself to call out one of the most trusted NFL Insiders.

Ian Rapoport faces McAfee’s fury

When it comes to reliable sources in the NFL, there are only so many you can trust. One of the most relevant and well-informed NFL Insiders has been Ian Rapoport. Excelling in his role since 2013, Rapoport has commanded the trust of many in the NFL, but Pat McAfee had to take a sly jab at the Insider, and the reason does make sense.

Earlier Rapoport reported that Patrick Mahomes’ contract could potentially get restructured, once fellow QBs  Joe Burrow and Justin Herbert sign their extensions. Mahomes has to be one of the most accomplished of his peers at this juncture in his career, but the record deals sent Lamar Jackson’s and Jalen Hurts’ way hardly reflect that.

But this wasn’t what ticked McAfee off. At the time of his contract extension, Mahomes deal was reported to be a ten-year $500 million contract, and McAfee had to remind Rapoport of him spewing lies.

And so and you guys lied about how much money Mahomes got paid. Remember that guys? 500 million….. You lie, you lie people die.” expressed McAfee.

Even though Rapoport did try to justify his actions at the time, blaming the whole thing on his Apple watch, McAfee looked far from convinced. The two however seemed to agree that Mahomes should be due for another extension and even outlined the QB market to -t.

NFL contracts following blueprints

Lamar Jackson demanded a contract in line with Deshaun Watson, instead, Jackson got lucky and the contract he received reflected Jalen Hurts’ extension. Something similar is expected of  Joe Burrow as Mahomes is speculated to be the blueprint for him. Despite these trends, Burrow signing a ten-year deal is highly unlikely.

Patrick Mahomes signed his contract during the pandemic and the whole economic scenario was stagnant during that time. Hence, Mahomes’ contract was a bid by the Chiefs to keep the core team together, and even though Mahomes has sacrificed his money on countless occasions, even the Chiefs’ GM agrees that he deserves to be the highest-paid QB in the league.
