The past offseason has been much like a box of chocolates for the Mahomes clan. While Patrick Mahomes led the Kansas City Chiefs to their second Super Bowl trophy in the last four years, the family has been crippled by losses that far outshine the achievements. Amidst all the celebrations of ending the session on a winning note, the biggest loss would have to be that of Mahomes’ grandmother, Debbie Martin, moving on to the afterlife.

Over the course of the current offseason, fans were delighted to see Mahomes make several appearances at celebrity events. It’s good to see the Super Bowl MVP cope with the personal setbacks and get back to his normal life, while his mother continues to miss her own mother.

Randi Mahomes’ campaign stalls

Patrick Mahomes and his family were on a celebratory flow when catastrophe struck. On 23rd March 2023, Mahomes’ mother Randi Martin took to Twitter to share some saddening news about her mother.

“Prayers for my mom. she’s very sick and at the hospital,” wrote Randi Martin. At the time, Debbie Martin was expected to make a recovery, but days after Patrick Mahomes’ biggest supporter succumbed to her ailments. The family was so heartbroken that Randi Martin’s best friends took to their social media accounts to break the news to the general public. Since then, Randi Martin has been feeling the absence of her mother severely and often takes to social media to remember the times of Debbie Martin. Recently Randi shared another void that her mother has left behind.

Since her demise, Debbie Martin’s family, especially her daughter has been making every possible attempt to keep her legacy alive. Randi Martin even started a GoFundMe campaign, ‘Honoring the Life of Debbie Martin Gates’, with the goal to raise $15,000. However, Martin’s attempts have not been uberly successful as the campaign has only been able to raise $5,500 so far. The end goal is to dish out a scholarship in Grandma Debbie’s name, and Randi Martin seems as resilient as ever.

Legal trouble following the Mahomes

While the Mahomes clan deals with the loss of Debbie Martin, Patrick’s younger brother Jackson Mahomes has his own demons to fight. Earlier this month, Jackson Mahomes has been arrested for three counts of aggravated sexual battery. A video of Jackson forcibly grabbing and kissing the owner of a bar went viral, and Jackson Mahomes might just have to pay his dues.

Aspen Vaughn, 40, owner of  Aspens Restaurant and Lounge in Overland Park alleged that Jackson Mahomes assaulted her and a 19-year-old waiter. She also submitted video footage of the same to the court, and several of her staff have confirmed the claims. The court affidavit also claims that Jackson asked the owner to not tell anyone of the incident and offered to help her with the business. The 22-year-old social influencer was presented to the Johnson County District Court in Texas and has since been slammed with a $100000 bond. Many have suspected that the youngest Mahomes shenanigans might be the reason the Randi Mahomes campaign has not made the expected progress and why she has stopped posting about it altogether.
