The Kansas City Chiefs are blessed to have Patrick Mahomes committed to them for the long run. The Chiefs’ investment in Mahomes has already paid off, as the two-time MVP led Kansas to their second Super Bowl championship in the last four years. Mahomes’ genius on the field has established him as the leader of a new wave of talented young quarterbacks.

Being one of the highest-paid quarterbacks in the entire league, Mahomes has little to worry about from a financial standpoint. Maybe that’s why the Super Bowl champion doesn’t refrain from occasionally making an expensive purchase or two. Yet, Mahomes refuses to spend his earnings on seemingly unimportant things, no matter how trivial the amount.

Back in 2020, Patrick Mahomes made history by signing a 10-year, $450 million contract extension with the Chiefs. At the time, the deal was believed to be worth an NFL-record $477 million, including $63 million fully guaranteed at signing. The deal provided a safe haven to Mahomes, ensuring an injury guarantee of $141 million.

Cut to 2023, Mahomes’ contract needed a rework as the Chiefs intended to clear up the salary cap. The Kansas City front office converted $12 million of Mahomes’s 2023 roster bonus into a signing bonus, clearing up $9.6 million in salary cap space.
