Are the New York Jets becoming the sought-after destination for this free agent? The free-agent saga continues for Dalvin Cook, the former Pro Bowl running back of the Minnesota Vikings, who remains without an NFL home. Cook joins the ranks of notable backs like Ezekiel Elliott, Leonard Fournette, and Kareem Hunt, all still searching for their next team.
Earlier reports suggested Cook’s interest in teaming up with DeAndre Hopkins, adding fuel to the speculation. While teams take a break before training camp, there are doubts about immediate signings, as teams prefer to assess their current roster. However, there are whispers that Cook might just find a new home with the $5.4 billion team, potentially teaming up with the lone wolf quarterback Aaron Rodgers, as hinted by a recent update from an official football source.

Cook, who has six seasons of experience with the Vikings, is set to celebrate his 28th birthday in August. Originally slated to consume $14.1 million of Vikings’ cap space in 2023, his future with the team became uncertain after trade talks failed to materialize. Consequently, the Vikings decided to release the highly regarded running back. Nevertheless, the Jets have been keeping a close watch on Cook’s situation and remain interested, particularly if his price tag becomes more favorable.

Jets head coach Robert Saleh responded differently to rumors about the team’s interest in free agent running back Ezekiel Elliott back in March, swiftly dismissing them. However, when it comes to Dalvin Cook, Saleh has been more suggestive. Last month, via New York Post, when questioned about Cook, Saleh left the possibility open, stating, “We’ll turn the stones over on that one.”

The Vikings released Dalvin Cook earlier this spring due to salary cap, following his four consecutive Pro Bowl seasons. The Jets have been closely monitoring Cook’s situation and might develop interest if his price tag drops to a more favorable level. Cook appears to be holding out hope for an offer close to the $8 million he earned last year in Minnesota. There has been significant speculation about three AFC East teams, namely the Miami Dolphins, New England Patriots, and Jets, expressing interest in Cook.
