The New York Jets oversaw one of the biggest additions to their roster and backroom staff in 2023. Aaron Rodgers switching over from the Packers will surely add a punch to the squad. But the addition of one of their coaches might be similarly important. Nathaniel Hackett has joined the team as their new OC.

Nathaniel Hackett joined the New York Jets earlier this year after being relieved of his duties as Broncos head coach. He will be guiding Aaron Rodgers and his teammates this season with the Jets in their offensive tactics. Hackett will recall his father’s lesson taught while he was young as he heads into the new chapter in 2023.

Nathaniel Hackett had the luxury of growing up with a father who stepped into the NFL realm as a coach in his twenties. With Paul Hackett, who was a young coach, he saw many teams in different parts of the country. This meant Nathaniel had to travel quite frequently with his dad, experiencing new environment ever so often.

In a recent conversation with Peter Schrager, Hackett recalls what it was like when he was a kid. Schrager asks Hackett, “what was it like growing up as a coach’s son? Obviously you’re traveling you’re going to new places you’re making new friends.” Hackett responds by saying, “yeah I mean growing up as a kid in this game is crazy.” Hackett further adds his influence from his father, “growing up in this, my, one of the coolest things about myself was being able to grow up in a locker room, my dad right out the gate.”

Nathaniel Hackett talks about his time with his father while he was traveling for his coaching jobs. He credits him for being able to step into the NFL world. Hackett shares instances of how his father moulded him for the future and the influences he experienced while growing up.

Paul Hackett, Nathaniel Hackett’s father, was a big reason behind his development early on as a kid. In the conversation with Peter Schrager, Nathaniel Hackett recalls how his father would bring him into the locker room. Hackett goes on to add, “I mean so many great players, my dad threw me in a locker room and made me work in the equipment room. Made me wash clothes, pick up clothes um fold towels I mean he want to be so just being around the guys.

Nathaniel Hackett had the luxury of being surrounded by some big names when he was still young. Hackett shares, “I mean, I remember when Marcus Allen because it was Joe Montana, … or Derrick Thomas. Those guys, I mean I’m picking up their laundry. And uh and washing clothes and and getting to know them see him interaction, and just just being able to be part of that was so amazing. And I think that’s something that my dad did great um for me is is let me be part of the team.”

Hackett, after becoming an OC, has overseen many players and teams in his career. But he continues to attribute his father for allowing him to be involved in NFL from a young age. With the new season ahead for Aaron Rodgers and the Jets. Hackett will hope to influence the Jets for the better.
