After completing an extensive career of 16 years, the Ravens’ legendary punter Sam Koch announced his retirement last month. The star is considered to have revolutionized punting in different ways by adopting new techniques into the game. As a result, he became a pioneer member of the Baltimore Ravens over the past decade and helped the team win Super Bowl XLVII. Meanwhile, the franchise took the initiative to celebrate the retirement of this longest-tenured player of Ravens with a five-minute video tribute.

The snippet featured some of the prominent voices of the NFL world, who came forward to praise the punter and his significance for the team. Jim Harbaugh, Marshal Yanda, Lamar Jackson, Haloti Ngata & Justin Tucker were some of the popular names on the list. Certainly, Koch was not expecting such a farewell. “I had no idea they were doing that,” Koch told Dirk Chatelain of the Lincoln Journal Star.

Surprisingly, the veteran is not leaving the gridiron as he vows to stay intact with this game & team by adorning a new role as the special teams’ consultant. His impeccable skill-set and vivid experience will surely help the youngster move ahead in the NFL.

The 39-year-old comes from a small town in Nebraska. He got selected in the sixth round of the 2006 NFL draft. Since then, he has rubbed his shoulder pads with some great names in the pro football league. Ray Lewis, Ed Reed, Jonathan Ogden & GM Ozzie Newsome were a few of them.

The Nebraska alumnus registered a franchise record of playing 256 games and averaged 45.3 yards per punt in his entire career. He received second-team All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections in 2015, climbing the ladders of success and greatness.

Veterans call him an asset for Baltimore Ravens and the pro-football league

The short video snippet that was prepared by the Ravens featured NFL stars extending their gratitude for Koch. “Sam changed punting,” said Harbaugh, a former special teams coach. “A lot of people don’t know it, but all the punters know it, and all the punting coaches know it,” he added.

“You’re going to go down as the greatest punter that has ever played the game of football.” MMA star Randy Brown said. Similarly, former American football coach, Jerry Rosburg claimed that Koch is the toughest player. “The NFL is a tough business. It’s for tough people. And there’s nobody tougher than Sam Koch.” Rosburg said.

A pro-football league is an ever-evolving event with veterans guiding the youngsters to inherit the legacies they left behind. It’s great to see athletes like Koch assert their greatness in a short time and maintain their dominance in the sport. It will be interesting to see how the punter begins his new chapter in the gridiron as a coach.
