Green Bay Packers Coach Reveals that Jordan Love was Not a First Choice Target

At 36, Aaron Rodgers is far from a spring chicken, in spite of being a talented player. So, like every business venture, the Green Bay Packers had to plan for the future of the franchise and snagged 21-year old Jordan Love. Head coach Matt LaFleur recently made an interesting revelation to ESPN Radio about Rodgers and Love.
Apparently, Jordan Love was not the franchise’s first choice to replace Aaron Rodgers. LaFleur told ESPN Radio, “It was just one of those situations where there were a couple guys targeted that had just previously been picked and Jordan was the next guy on the board, and so we went with the best player at the time.”

How did the Green Bay Packers end up with Jordan Love?
However, that explanation makes little sense, because the Packers traded up in the first round to draft Love. Apparently, drafting a player and trading up to draft a player are two different things altogether.
That suggests that the Packers were solely gunning for Love specifically. They wanted him so badly that they didn’t want to wait and risk some other team drafting him before their pick came up.

For the moment, Aaron Rodgers remains as the Packers’ trusty starting quarterback and their most reliable one. Clearly, Matt LaFleur wants to keep him happy and honour his contract. However it is also true that the Packers wouldn’t have traded up for Love if they expected Rodgers to play out the remaining four years on his contract.
The only question now is, how will the Green Bay Packers line up now. In other words, how will Aaron Rodgers and Jordan Love divide their quarterback duties. Bear in mind, when Rodgers debuted, the then quarterback, Brett Favre treated him with hostility. However, Rodgers insisted that he will not do the same to the 21-year old.
