The New York Jets desperately want an elite QB for the 2023 NFL season. And it looks like they have zeroed in on Derek Carr for the job at MetLife Stadium. The franchise held talks with the free agent QB to woo him to join the team that has struggled to post some wins in the league. And a Jets’ bold promise to Carr has left the NFL world clueless.

Carr became a free agent after falling out with the Las Vegas Raiders towards the end of the 2022 season. And the Jets peg the QB as the answer to all their offensive woes that plagued the team.

Jets make a bold promise to Derek Carr

The Jets seem to be going all out on Derek Carr for the next NFL season. It became evident from the bold promise they made to the QB during their meeting with him. The New York franchise told Carr that if he joins them, he could be a first-ballot Hall of Famer.

This bold promise has left the NFL world clueless. Some fans think if Carr does take the Jets to the Super Bowl title, the promise will become reality. Others however are just stunned by the kind of things the franchise is willing to say to get the QB to sign for them. Here are some fan reactions.

They’re not wrong. Raider fans will “reluctantly” send him over to the Jets tonight or tomorrow morning. We’d be “sad” to lose him but he could “possibly, probably“ be great for the Jets! He’s pretty awesome in cold weather and handles tough media well! He hardly ever cries!

The Jets desperately need a QB after a dismal season by Zach Wilson. But is Carr the solution to the problems that saw the franchise finish dead last in their division?

The dismal 2022 season

MetLife Stadium did not get to celebrate much in the 2022 season. The Jets won just seven of the 17 games they took the field in. And constant changes at the center did not help matters one bit.

Zach Wilson threw 1,688 yards in the games he played. The 2021 draft pick threw just six touchdown passes the whole season while the opposing defenses intercepted seven of his throws. Mike White didn’t fare well either, throwing just three touchdowns and four interceptions. So, a QB is the Jets’ utmost priority. Will Carr fare any better if he does join the struggling AFC East franchise?
