Ever since the news of Tom Brady retiring from the NFL came out, fans have been waiting eagerly for the next chapter of his life. Brady’s absence from the game was not well received by the football community, but his ambitions for the broadcasting world gave them a new glimmer of hope.

The former Tampa Bay Buccaneers star has been offered the position of analyst for a 10-year, $375 million contract by Fox. Brady will, however, take up his new position only in 2024. Despite the fans being delighted, one man will supposedly take a huge hit.

Olsen hoping for the best

Fox broadcaster Greg Olsen earned the position of lead analyst less than three months ago, but his position is not the only thing in jeopardy. If Brady follows through with his decision, Olsen is bound to lose close to $7 million, taking his salary from a whopping $10 million to $3 million. Being cut from the same competitive cloth as Brady, Olsen is definitely going to put up a fight and try to maintain his position.

According to a report by Queen City News Olsen said, “Tom Brady — I’m sure you all read those new articles last week, you couldn’t escape it, But my answer every time was, ‘I have all the respect in the world for Tom Brady.’ Who doesn’t, right? He’s the greatest, I get it. I understand why they went after him, but I’m not going to roll over and die. I understand the rules we all signed up for. I don’t ask for anybody’s sympathy. It’s been awesome.

Despite Olsen’s comments, several Twitter users felt that the former tight-end had no other choice but to take a backseat to Tom Brady.

Even though a certain faction of NFL fans sympathizes with Olsen, a majority of the community is looking forward to Brady in the broadcaster’s booth. As the situation is playing out currently, Olsen might end up on the receiving end of a bad deal, and possibly would just have to deal with it.

The Olsen-Brady showdown

After having an extremely successful rookie year with Fox, Greg Olsen got bumped up to the network’s lead analyst position. However, with the addition of Tom Brady, Olsen will have to take a step back. And he himself is quite aware of the situation. During his appearance on Barstool Sports’ “Pardon My Take” podcast Olsen said, “But yeah, if you’re going to lose, at least lose to him. I can at least live with the only person in the world who beat me out was Tom Brady. I can live with that.”

Olsen, however, has one more season left to prove his worth before Brady’s takeover. But the question begs to be asked: Is Olsen being treated fairly? At the end of the day, the decision lies with FOX, but from an idealistic perspective, they would probably figure out a way to accommodate both Brady and Greg Olsen, won’t they? We would just have to wait and watch.
