Colin Kaepernick hasn’t been a part of the league since 2017. Every time he is close to making a return, he is shunned. One of the former players who is very upset with how things played out with Kap was Alex Smith. The former Washington quarterback was a teammate of Kaepernick’s and, as a result, knows a thing or two about him.

Last year, Alex Smith gave an insight into his view on the Colin Kaepernick situation. He believed Kaepernick was ahead of his team because, back then, not many athletes did what he was doing. Now, at present, athletes are used to bringing attention to social problems in the country.
Alex Smith said, “I think it’s so tragic looking at it. I think he was ahead of his time, certainly, trying to call out social injustice, especially around police reform. The country wasn’t ready,” he added, “Nobody was ready for it, and he’s sitting there trying to tell everybody through a completely peaceful manner about some of the things going on in this country that had been going on for a long time.”

Colin Kaepernick has been a free agent since 2017. Since the San Francisco 49ers released him, no team has been willing to provide him the opportunity to make a return to the league.

Alex Smith lauded the talent possessed by Colin Kaepernick
During his time in the league, Kaepernick was a pretty decent quarterback. He led the San Francisco 49ers to a Super Bowl appearance as well. Since Alex Smith shared the locker room with Kaepernick, he knew how good of a player Kap actually was.

While talking about Kaepernick’s game, Smith said, “The run that he went on the last year we were together when we went to the Super Bowl … was so crazy to watch. Truly one of the historic runs in football to see what he was doing. He still holds records from that time period.”

Alex Smith claimed he was proud of what Colin Kaepernick stood for. Even though Kaepernick’s actions cost him, he could make an impact on the community. Many athletes have been inspired by him since and have started taking a stance on such matters.
