For a long time now, the NFL has lacked the presence of a commanding defensive end. The Bosa brothers (Joey and Nick), JJ Watt, Khalil Mack and of course, Aaron Donald, are some of the well-revered defensive ends in the league. But the arrival of a certain youngster by the name of Chase Young in the NFL could be the dawn of a new era.

The former Ohio State superstar arrived in Washington as the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft, behind Joe Burrow. Why was young drafted ahead of someone like Tua Tagovailoa, Justin Herbert or even CeeDee Lamb? Just have look at his more than impressive college record.

After graduating from DeMarth Catholic High School, Young was offered scholarships from a reported 40 different universities. In July 2016, he committed his future to Ohio State.

Here are a few of the college records he smashed between 2017-19.

  • Ohio State school records for single-game sacks (4)
  • Ohio State school records for tackles for loss (5)
  • Single-season school record for most sacks (16.5)
  • Became the ninth defensive player since 1982 to be nominated for The Heisman Trophy
  • Voted the Big Ten Jesse Owens Athlete of the Year

Young also won the Bronko Nagurski Trophy, Chuck Bednarik Award, Ted Hendricks Award, Chicago Tribune Silver Football, Nagurski–Woodson Defensive Player of the Year, and Smith–Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year. So it’s safe to say that this kid is not going to back down easily.
