The Cleveland Browns had an abysmal 2019 NFL season. It was their 12th consecutive campaign with a losing record. They finished the season 3rd in AFC North (6-10) and failed to advance to the playoffs for a 17th consecutive year. The Browns powers that be are desperate for a turnaround sooner rather than later and parted ways with Freddie Kitchens after a solitary season.

They hired Kevin Stefanski to replace him and end their side’s drought. The 38-year old is excited about his quarterback and opened up on the same.

On NFL on Fox, Charissa Thomson quizzed the new coach about his new quarterback Baker Mayfield.

“Yea, a lot. You see with Baker there’s a skillset. The reason he went no.1 overall (2018). He’s an incredibly accurate player. I love the fiery nature that he has, he’s a natural-born leader. So we’re really excited to get out hands on him and put him in a system that we think is gonna benefit him.”

“We think the system is gonna benefit his teammates, but certainly, the all-encompassing skillset of Baker has been on display really that’s why he’s won in high school, he’s won in college. And we’re looking forward to get our arms around him and really put forth a great effort, this spring-summer. Then hit the ground running in the fall.”

Stefanski spent 14 seasons in various coaching roles with NFC franchise Minnesota Vikings. Last season as offensive coordinator he took the team to the NFC playoffs. Here they fell to Super Bowl runners up San Francisco 49ers.

Browns’ fans will be hoping that Stefanski adapts quickly and becomes the first head coach since Butch Davis to take them into the playoffs. The new man in the hot seat has a huge weight on his shoulders. However, he indicates that he has gotten a system that can unlock the true potential of his players.

The players will be hard at work throughout the offseason. Fans will hope to see positive signs in the pre-season games as well as when the Browns kick off yet another bid to reach the playoff away at Baltimore Ravens on September 13.

Can Stefanski end the Browns’ unfortunate drought? Or will they suffer yet another miserable season and go fifth in the all-time list for consecutive seasons with no playoff appearance?
