Jackson is out of contract after the fifth year of his rookie deal ended at the end of the 2022 season. He and the Ravens have not been able to agree on the amount of guaranteed money in the contract extension. And the latest move might mean he is already on his way out.
The delicate contract situation
Lamar Jackson is a free agent after failing to agree to the contract extension terms with the Ravens. The franchise still has the option of putting a franchise tag on the QB if they want him for the next season. After the Cleveland Browns guaranteed the whole of QB Deshaun Watson’s contract worth $230 million, Jackson wanted a similar treatment for himself. But the Ravens don’t want to fall into that trap. That has made the negotiations harder and more delicate.

Another factor is that Jackson is his own agent. So, talking to him as a player and an agent are two different things. And it also creates a lot of confusion for the Ravens in the negotiations. Till a resolution comes, Jackson’s future hangs in a balance.
